Rocca Vecchia

Falanghina 2012

IGT Puglia – Italy

Wine description
Italy is famous for ancient hill towns, castles and fortresses, many of which are surrounded by the beautiful vineyards that yield classic, food-friendly wines like this Falanghina. It is a grape that has been around since Roman times, but has enjoyed a renaissance in recent years thanks to its quality and exciting characteristics – significantly more interesting than Pinot Grigio!

Winemaking
Maestro winemaker Giorgio Flessati does his magic in Puglia – a change from Chile where he is usually to be found creating award-winning Viña Mayu wines. The Falanghina vines for this wine were planted around 30 years ago on clay, calcareous soils. Harvested by hand in October, they came to the winery in very good weather conditions. Winemaking is at controlled low temperatures to ensure fresh citrus flavours are preserved.

Tasting Notes
This great example of Falanghina is straw yellow in colour and displays intense fruity aromas with a bunch of flowery highlights. Refreshingly dry and full-bodied with fresh, crisp acidity.

Food Match
Delicious with appetisers, fish dishes, mozzarella and other mild cheeses.

Alcohol: 12.5%
